    New "Robot Wars: Extreme" Recordings!

When: Sat 19 Oct - Wed 23 Oct 2002 (possibly extending to Thurs 24 Oct)

    Where: Nottingham

Robot Wars grows from strength to strength. The show now airs in over 30
countries, with original productions in the the USA (TNN and Nickelodeon),
Germany (RTL2), Holland (BNN) and Sweden (TV4). And as the sport gets
bigger, the action gets more furious, explosive and spectacular. You've
risen to the challenge and taken robotic combat to new extremes. The
success of the show is thanks to your continuing enthusiasm, skill and
support - and as always, we are extremely grateful for all your hard work
    and commitment. Thank you.

This announcement is a call to arms for the upcoming "Robot Wars: Extreme"
recordings. In consultation with the BBC and in response to viewer
feedback, this year we are proposing a number of individually branded,
stand alone specials and mini-tournaments - each with their own titles and
    rewards.

The series will provisionally include the following episodes:

Robot Wars: The All-Star Championships (2 Episodes)

For the second year running, the veteran 'All-Stars' battle it out for the
'All-Stars' title. This event running across two programmes will feature
    the 12 semi finalists
from the Sixth Wars. The winner will gain automatic entry into Robot Wars:
    Commonwealth Carnage (see below)

Robot Wars: The New Blood Tournament (5 Episodes)

The 'New Blood' tournament is a five-episode competition open to 24
newcomers - those robots that have not previously (or only fleetingly)
    appeared on the show
before. The tournament is made up of four heats with a fifth show grand
final. Although we are looking at recordings made at the qualifiying
sessions for the Sixth Wars, we are also looking for volunteers. If you
feel you deserve to be considered, contact us immediately. Equally, if you
are a veteran of the sport but have designed a brand new robot, you can
    also enter.

Robot Wars: Tag Team Terror (1 Episode)

Eight tag team pairings (16 robots in total), all styled and dressed to be
consistent with each other, fight it out over seven knockout battles to
become the Tag Team Terror Champions of Robot Wars. But this time the
rules apply! We are looking for teams so contact your mates, then contact
    us.

Robot Wars: Warrior Wives (1 Episode)

The unsung heroines of Robot Wars - the ones that put up with their
husbands living in garages and tool sheds for half the year - take to the
controls in this battle of the fairer sex. For the first time ever, the
driving force behind the best drivers in the world of Robot Wars do battle.
Does your wife or partner think they can do a better job than you in battle
with your robot? Are you man enough to let them drive your robot? If so
    let us know.

Robot Wars: Robot Rampage (1 Episode)

This special features miniaturised action from the Antweight class, fast
paced fury with the Featherweights, thrills and spills with the
Lightweights, destructive mayhem with the Middleweights and technical
superiority with the Walker class. And the show concludes with a dramatic
main event in the form of our 2002 Super Heavyweight Knockdown. If you've
previously complained that other weight classes haven't been given due
recognition, then this is your opportunity to show us what television has
    been missing!

    Robot Wars: Annihilator (1 Episode)

Six robots fight it out across five battles, with the worst performer
eliminated at the end of each battle. Everyone's favourite survival of the
fittest returns promising even more destruction, strategy and action.
Alliances are broken more often than chassis in this ultimate war of
    attrition!

Robot Wars: University Challenge (1 Episode)

Six teams from the best Universities in the land meet head to head in a
contest in which brawn really should outweigh brain!

Robot Wars: Demolition Derby (1 Episode)

Eight robots compete in various challenges designed to test their driving
ability and control under pressure. A specially designed arena, full of
obstacles, skill tests, point scoring challenges and fighting opportunities
will be designed to test the roboteers to their very limits.

Robot Wars: Minor Meltdown (1 Episode)

Six teams of tiny roboteers, all under the age of 12, take to the controls
to show their Dad's how to do it and become the Junior Champion of Robot
Wars. If you've got a son or daughter who deserves to win let us know - or
a godchild, friend of the family, neighbours kids, whatever. Open to anyone
under the age of 12 years old. Naturally, for health and safety reasons
adults will be involved in the team - but behind the scenes and not in
    vision.

Robot Wars: Commonwealth Carnage (1 Episode)

An international special featuring 12 robots from the British Commonwealth
including entries from Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa,
Pakistan, Zimbabwe and Cyprus - and not forgetting the four nations
England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Robot Wars: European Championships (1 Episode)

A European special featuring 12 robots from across the continent.
International feuds are fuelled and continental differences exposed in our
quest to crown the European Heavyweight Champion.

    IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Please note that we already have specific robots and roboteers in mind for
various events and will be contacting those teams accordingly. However,
while we welcome submissions for all of the events and competitions
outlined above, please be aware that we will be oversubscribed so you may
be disappointed. It is currently our intention to let no robot appear in
more than two or three competitions.

Please email your entry to robotwars@mentorn.co.uk The closing date for
all entries is Wednesday 18 September 2002. Prize and appearance fee
details for all competitions and tournaments to be confirmed shortly.

Please note that the above proposal - while extremely likely to be the
competitive structure for the next recordings - is still subject to final
    BBC approval and may change.

Remember the dates of recording are Saturday 19 October through to
Wednesday 23 October - and may extend to Thursday 24 October. Tickets to
come and see the recording will be available shortly. Keep an eye on the
    website for more information.

Again, many thanks for your continued support and enthusiasm.

    Best wishes

    W.A.R.S.
