Evening Roboteers.
The time has finally come to get your robots out of the shed, dust off the cobwebs, and get them ready for action. Hopefully you’re all excited to be getting your thumbs ready for an exciting 2022 run of shows.
Firstly, we welcome a brand new face to the company, our new Creative Director and Live Event Producer Glen Joseph Robinson. Glen brings a wide range of skills to the show, and with his experience as a Producer for the WWE, as well as a history working in Formula 1, his CV shows a proven track record of getting results and taking shows to the next level.
In addition to our already fantastic presenting team we also welcome former WWE ring announcer Francesca Brown. Her background in presenting and content creation will bring a whole new depth and fan interaction to the show and behind the scenes content the likes of which you’ve never seen before!
This year is about 3 exciting teams, , Inferno, Quake and Divinity, headed by 3 captains, which one will you join? but we are taking the fans and roboteers on a journey throughout the whole year, not only show by show with our show winners.
If you want to protect your hobby, and help us build a platform for the future, which means more events, bigger shows, more cities, potential sponsors then we need your support.
This means we need you to get on board and sign up to all 5 events so you can be part of a team throughout the year and help your team be victorious at the end. Now if you cant make all 5 events, we will try and fit you in to the show you can attend.
Lets join forces and really start ploughing forward.
Middleweights - You will be pleased to know that we are continuing to support Middleweights, and there will be one melee fight per show (subject to numbers).
Featherweights - We would still like you to attend the events and after some feedback on social media before Covid we will be running featherweights as a pre-show section. This year we will be making more of a spectacle of it, last year, the audience enjoyed being able to see them a bit closer, with a bit more light, and it was a great extra element to the show. The difference this time is we will be telling the audience before hand to get there early to watch the featherweights so they don’t miss it. Anything we can do to get bums on seats earlier the better as it ensures the show can start on time.
Our plan this year is to really drive the brand forward both as a live show AND online on all the social media outlets. That means at the show we are going to have a bigger presenting team, bigger film crew including doing action replays, live videos, and a lot more cameras running around capturing interviews and footage.
This means it’s a requirement that ALL team members are required to wear team shirts in the pits, and with Covid still around, and space limitations, we will be limiting teams to THREE PEOPLE ONLY. While it’s lovely to have your grandparents there, and for them to see the action, they can no longer do that from the pits. They are very welcome to sit out front and watch the show while it’s on but we must adhere to venue regulations, otherwise there would be no show at all!
Our show formats for 2022 are slightly different, 2 shows on Saturday 12pm and 4pm, and 1 show on Sunday at 12pm. We’ve done this following the ticket trends and also means everyone gets home earlier on a Sunday. Hopefully we will be back up to 4 shows per weekend very soon.
This year its going to be about in front of a camera a lot more than previously. You will be asked for more interviews and as you’re fixing your robots you may have Frankie and a camera following your progress, and although that might not be used in the live show, it is likely being captured for a feature that will surface a few weeks later online.
The other thing we will be launching on top of the content regularly being put out online we will have a brand new once a week online Magazine Show called “Re-Activated “ that will discuss all the talking points from previous shows and other content from robot world.

If you can invest your time in creating content with my team, in sharing any media we put out on socials, in being open to new ideas for Twitch, TikTok, Instagram and all of the social media outlets that we’re looking to expand into, then we can invest our time in you to develop, embellish and turn you (and your robots) into Superstars. I was lucky enough to have worked with some huge stars in my time at WWE, but they only got to that level by not only their dedication in the ring, but their contributions outside of it as well. I want to start by saying how excited I am to get back in front of a crowd with you all and celebrate the fantastic world of Robot Combat, to once again show our current fans and future ones how brilliant it is and YOU are. I’m delighted to say that I have now joined Extreme Robots as a company director and I am more determined than ever that by working as a team we can have a fantastic year and beyond.
I’ve used the term Robot Combat for a reason, that’s the focus of my message to you today and for the future of Extreme Robots. To start with though I want to discuss the Major Damage sized Elephant in the room, we know how important getting on Robot Wars was for you all and to some extent Battlebots now, but as those programs come and go the events put on by the Extreme Robots team have continued to be there for you and allow the robot destruction to continue year after year. That’s taken a lot of effort especially these past few years to continue, it would be very easy to just carry on as we were and play it safe. But we don’t want to, we want to give you what you want as well as what we think the future of the sport needs. As great as those tv shows have been they exist for a moment and then it’s onto the next series and honestly thats also been the same with our events, but we want that to change. We want to raise the stakes, below I will outline our vision for year one and beyond, it’s not just time to re-activate our shows but Robot Combat as a whole.
YEAR ONE:
Team competition: We have created 3 teams for year one Team Quake, Team Divinity and Team Inferno. This allows us to build the brand, the teams and most importantly you. We want to take the model of an f1 championship where we have a constructors championship that runs throughout the year, at each show, each event. Keeping this simple for the first year it’ll be 3 points for a victory in a battle, 1 point in the event of a draw. We will have a per show winner for the fans attending that particular show but the main focus is to carry those points over to the next show and event etc. It will mean the team captains and those in the teams having to be more tactical about how the plan their battles there will be a lot at stake! This also allows us to focus more on the sport element of Robot Combat.
The fans will also get to vote for their favourite team in the interval of each show and the winning team will get a bonus which they can tactically use in the second half so it’s important to engage with the fans!
Why have we done this?: We don’t just want our audience to turn up watch the show and forget about it till next year we want them to follow the journey for the year and become fans of their favourite teams. Each event will be filmed and a highlight package put together online for them to follow that journey for the rest of the year, think of it like match of the day or drive to survive from the f1 teams. This will become a weekly show online called RE-ACTIVATE which will contain features, interviews and analysis alongside the fights themselves, effectively a 52 week running show. I am delighted that Glen has come on board he has vast experience within WWE and Progress Wrestling at achieving exactly what we want. We also spent many years together working in F1 and will aim to bring that experience with us. He will outline his plans with you at Portsmouth. I ask that you give him the same support and kindness that you showed me when I started, and I believe by adding him to the team we can take Extreme Robots to the next level. We have also brought in the hugely talented Francesca Brown who had a brief stint presenting with me and has since worked with Sky Sports and WWE. She will be on hand to capture interviews and all the events backstage so we have plenty of footage for the live event fans and later on our round up show. The more you can engage with them the better the content and the better the show we can bring to the fans for you.
Alongside the normal presenting throughout the show this year we will have the ability to capture immediate action replays allowing you to discuss moments immediately with the presenters and for the fans to see the amazing action again. This will really enhance the Sports element of the show.
Teams allow us to have continuity, we can’t ask the fans to truly engage with the whole year if we don’t have consistency, so by having the same teams this helps. Ultimately we want the same robots in those teams as well and there’s a reason why which I will explain shortly.
We will also find it easier to recruit sponsors and partners for the events if they can back the teams etc and be visible on their team kits throughout the year. The more revenue we can bring in from these the bigger and better we can go with the shows and support you moving forward with your robots.
Teams also allow us to focus more closely our marketing and merchandise streams which will be hugely important for us to be able to develop the brand with the extra content. The Extreme Robots team haven’t held back with their plans so these areas are going to be crucial for support us and for growth.
Whatever team you end up in will effectively be your responsibility. You are Extreme Robots version of Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull and the drivers and the robots are the Hamiltons, Verstappens and Norris’s of Robot Combat. The more we put our focus into the brand and teams together the more the fan base will grow and support. Giving the audience a reason to feel their team is winning and building a rapport with them through socials is going to be key to our success.
I want to bridge the gap between Robot Combat and E sports and Glens online content is going to go a long way to achieving that.
We are taking this VERY seriously, we know what the sport means to you and we know how important winning is for a lot of you too. So with that in mind we have decided to come up with something extra to make this years competition mean more.
For the first time ever there will be a cash prize for the winning team at the end of the year. Team Inferno, Team Quake and Team Divinity will be in with a chance to take home £5000! To be eligible to claim a part of the prize money each roboteer must have taken part in at least 3 event weekends with a heavyweight robot. The prize money would then be divided up fairly between all relevant roboteers depending on how many events they attended. So if you attend all 5 and your team wins the year you get a bigger part of the pot.
Each fight this year has stakes and meaning, giving you the chance to continue the journey throughout the year.
How can you help?: The obvious one is bring the robots to the show! The better the fights, the better the event, the better the content, the bigger we can grow!
Being available when possible to Glen and the team as a representative of Extreme Robots and most importantly your team. The more you can work together within that team the better the content and the more the fans will engage begin to find their favourites.
Social media is crucial so share everything! Be supportive and positive online, we know there are things you want and maybe don’t always agree with but we need a united front online publicly. Remember, the fans read everything so we all need to be pulling in the same direction. They will love to see the banter within the teams and against each other but the more we can guide viewers to YouTube and Facebook/instagram etc on the Extreme Robots channels the bigger it will become. We will be using twitch to grow the platform too so would love as many of you as possible involved in all of these things. If 52 weeks of the year we are getting thousands of views online this can become a year streamed tv event for all of us which covers that Robot Wars and Battlebot Elephant in the room!
All content needs to be pushed towards the Extreme Robots channels to avoid confusion for the fans and to help it grow so we can do more for you.
Can my robot win anything individually?: YES! We are excited to be able to announce the XR Heavyweight championship a title belt which will be kept with the winner throughout the year. Whoever wins it in show one will have to defend it each time they step into the arena, how long can you keep hold of that belt?! I can’t wait for you to see the design Glen’s come up with you’re going to love it!
To our amazing featherweights and middle weights and beyond, you represent the future to so many of our robot fans and getting them started as roboteers and engineers. You are crucial to the weekends experience for the fans and showing them what is possible you are very much part of the journey ahead for us
Year 2 plans:
There’s so much more to come but below are some ideas we have discussed.
Expand the championship beyond 3 teams(do you want your own team? Then tell us!)
Expand the championship beyond heavyweights, to do this we will look at more content and maybe setting up an arena to run our own streamed events filmed specifically for the other weight classes.
More shows, to do this simply put we need to grow the audiences. We want to have more shows in the North, Midlands and beyond but that needs everyone on board and a growing fan base. The more we all push the bigger this gets.
If we work as a team we can create something really special, I’m excited for the future and I hope you will be too. This is going to take ALL of us together to achieve. We are all Extreme Robots. Now we need to get out there and build a loyal and supportive XR Army, lets re-activate Robot Combat and take it to the next level!

dank Chinas Lockdown wird sich mein Bau auch noch ordentlich ziehen, Glücklicherweise Baue ich ja noch Beetle, Raptor, Feather und Middleweight, dadurch hab ich immer was zu tun, wäre es nur Heavyweight würde ich Aktuell ziemlich ins Stocken kommen!
