• I have been thinking about using a water pump to power my next robot. Is water allowed in a closed system?

I want to change over to a gas powered motor, but hydraulik is too slow and expensive. a benzinwasserpumpe is a faster and cheaper alternitive.

I don´t know of anyone that has tried this and think it could be very practicable, but only if water is allowed.

If I can use water, it will drive the robot as well as the weapons.

I just need to know if its allowed before i start buying water pumps. =)

    :ja: :nein:

    try, try, and try again

  • hi
There is nothing in the rules about the kind of hydraulic transmissinon fluid, and your suggested system is obviously a hydraulic circuit. should be according to the rules w/o problems.

  • There is only 1 difference between a hydraulic system using Oil as working fluid compared to a water using one.

Suitablity of pump, valves and other equipment.

Oil is namely a lubrificant, and has higher working temperatures -big advantage. You don't want low pressure steam in the watertank.

Also.. water has a small disadvantage.. it weights more than oil. and in this setup, it isn't a consumable.
