Gegen Tombstone hätte chomp ja noch halbwegs ne Chance, zumindest mit einem besseren Fahrer. HUGE wär doch mal ein schöner Gegner
,,Why does my motor need brushes if it doesn´t have hair?" - Charles Guan
What a strategic driving match against Chomp that was! Despite our best attempts to hide the important drivetrain bits of Overhaul, Chomp still managed to pull off its legendary chain-sniping and missed the left-side forward drive chain by less than half an inch, actually scraping a big chunk off the left center wheel in the process!
That hardhat was added as a joke, but it quickly became not a joke because we're pretty sure it actually saved the clamp drive motor from a glancing blow.
Overhaul had the front right wheel come apart rather early in the match - it was one of the first we cast, and the process might have been imperfect. This caused the bot to have some mobility issues near the end as the wheel broke apart and started bouncing around in the drivetrain!
However, the real story of this match was that the motor controllers Charles designed were clearly not quite up to the task, and the left side had two rapid failures at the end of the match. Not only that, but their failure cascaded quickly into the receiver power supply, causing a short which shut down the whole bot with only a few seconds left.
After the match, we had to rebuild most of the wiring harness that was melted by the controller fire, as well as replacing both of the redundant receiver power supplies.
That means had it happened maybe 10 seconds earlier, Overhaul likely would have been counted out. Unfortunately, this was a harbringer of more controller problems which would plague Overhaul for the rest of the event....
*dun Dun DUUUUUUUNNNNNN*
Woah, there’s nothing in the robot and it’s the day before our next match! After our drive motors smoked during our first match, we had a teammate overnight us different motors from home. These new motors were bigger, heavier, and lower voltage, so we had to re-wire and re-machine all of the internals of Witch Doctor. Lucky for us, Tormach was there with a CNC Mill! These have been the biggest repairs we’ve ever made during a competition. Will we get it done in time for our next match?!
