ROBOlympics 2007

    Greetings!

    The 4th annual ROBOlympics will be held next June in San Francisco. In the last years, we have had teams from 20+ countries - but no Germans! Last year, the Brazilians and Canadians even managed to take a gold medal in two of the combat classes:
    http://robogames.net/2006.php

    I would like to invite you all to come and compete!

    There are over 60 events to compete in, including 11 different combat robot classes: http://robogames.net/events.php

    We are working with the FRA to get as many European teams to come as possible.

    The 2007 games are also host to FIRA (robot football/soccer) championships - 7 different kinds of robot football will be played. Of course, we also have robo-one, sumo robots, and much more

    I hope very much that the Germans teams will be able to come and compete. You can register here:

    Thanks!

    Howdy David,

    ur invitation is an awesome thing which I'm very thankful for!

    Many would love to participate at ROBOlympics 2007 but like Flatliner already said, for most ppl here its nearly impossible due to the costs for that lil trip to San Francisco. We have several pupils who can't afford that by far and unfortunately a big percentage of the german roboteers is in a comparable situation...

    Nevertheless here's a short overview in which classes u could expect german robots:

    • Heavyweight (100 kg <=> ~220 lbs)
    • Featherweight (12 kg <=> ~26 lbs)
    • Raptorweight (6 kg <=> ~13 lbs)
    • Antweight (150 gr <=> ~5 oz)

    Except class #3 which is a self defined class by us, all other classes follow the standard FRA rules...

  • [Thank you for moving the thread, Gizmo]

    We would love to have some Germans! I wish we could afford to fly teams in, but it's just not possible.

    The event is 11 months away. If airfare is €1200 (max), and hotel etc is another €300, it's really only about €200 per month if a person starts saving now.

    Also try for SMALL sponsors. Many teams find success getting €100 or €250 sponsors. A few of them and you're done. Point out the press page:
    http://robogames.net/news.php

    There are several articles in German. Sponsors love press, but they often do it for a good feeling... (no really.)

    I hope that you guys will start trying now to find a way to come. I'll waive the fees for the first 3 German teams that register - it's a small bit I know, but it helps.

    I would really like this to be a truly Internatinoal competition. We will have German teams for soccer/fusball - but combat is the king. So please try to come.

    Thanks for everything!

  • Hi Gizmo

  • Featherweight could easily fit into our hobbyweight, and you can gain 1.6 kilos. Raptorweights would have to go on a diet though, and lose 1/2 a kilo...

    The 1.4 kg and 454g classes are also a good entry point - with 11 months, you all have lots of time.

    FYI to everyone, our classes are:

    340 lbs / 154.5 kg
    220 lbs / 100 kg <--
    120 lbs / 54.5 kg
    60 lbs / 27.3 kg
    30 lbs / 13.6 kg <--
    12 lbs / 5.5 kg <--
    3 lbs / 1.4 kg (both remote control and a separate autonomous class)
    1 lb / 454g (both remote control and autonomous)
    5.3 oz / 150g

    There comes a time you have to foot the bill.... This might be our time, as Raptors had been starting with 5,5 kilos.

    Zusammenfassung der stand soweit:
    HW=100 kg, FW=13,6 kg, hW=6 kg.
    hW= hobbyweight= heutigem Raptoren.
    Es geben auch noch: LW=30 kg, MW=55 kg, SHW=155 kg.
    Damit koennen FRA, DRG, GRA, RFL, Brazil, Korea und Australien auf einen linien kommen und ein weltweite standard verabreden.

    Danke Marien für die Info!

    hW=6 kg. hw = hobbyweight= heutigem Raptoren

    Das klingt doch gut, wenn unsere Raptoren nicht umgebaut werden müßten.

    Hmm ich hatte das etwas anders gelesen, nämlich so:

    UK/Germany/Netherlands -
    6 Kg Raptor class becomes unified HobbyWeight 5kg class 12Kg FeatherWeight class becomes unified FeatherWeight 15Kg class 50Kg MiddleWeight class becomes unified MiddleWeight 55Kg class 100Kg Heavyweight class becomes unified HeavyWeight 100Kg class 200Kg SuperHeavyWeight class becomes unified SuperHeavyWeight 155Kg class

    Diese Info ist mit Datum vom 19.07.06

    hast du was neueres Marien?

    • Offizieller Beitrag

    Nun, hinsichtlich heavyweight = 100kg Ok
    Raptor = 6kg OK
    Featherweight = 13,6 hmm wieso nicht OK

    Bislang gibt es nur zwei richtige Featherweight in Deutschland, ich baue derzeit wohl den Dritten (wenn Flatliner nicht was in der Hinterhand hat und das hat er)
    Für die Mitglieder der GRA wäre jetzt der richtige Zeitpunkt diese Gewichtsklassen festzuklopfen. Ich bitte mal um weitere Äußerungen
